Up to 1,500 American Civilians Still in Afghanistan as Clock Ticks
Thousands of U.S. military service members will change in coming times from evacuating Us citizens and Afghans to loading the remaining five,400 U.S. personnel and vital products onto the remaining planes to depart the country forward of next Tuesday’s deadline, the Pentagon mentioned Wednesday.
Though personnel and products would get priority in the times forward as the U.S. and allies evacuate from Hamid Karzai Intercontinental Airport, the Pentagon mentioned it was committed to evacuating Afghans until operations conclude, with no saying when they would close or when the remaining military withdrawal would begin.
“We will have to reserve some potential in these last few of times to prioritize the military footprint leaving for the reason that we want to be in a position to continue to keep it there as extended as feasible to do the task it is meant to do,” Pentagon spokesman John Kirby instructed reporters Wednesday.
In a signal of the change, Turkey commenced evacuating its soldiers from Afghanistan, the Defense Ministry mentioned on Wednesday. Turkish troops had performed a critical job securing the Kabul airport.
Just before the Taliban takeover, U.S. officials had been negotiating with Ankara toward an agreement in which Turkey would keep on supplying safety at the airport soon after American forces left the country. The Turkish Defense Ministry mentioned Wednesday that its soldiers ended up returning property soon after completing their mission.
