Netflix plans new versions of Roald Dahl stories with takeover deal

New variations of Roald Dahl’s beloved children’s stories are coming to the small screen after Netflix struck a deal to get the enterprise that manages his legal rights.

The streaming giant has snapped up the late author’s complete catalogue of novels, which have been translated into sixty three languages and sold extra than 300m copies all over the world.

Netflix already had an arrangement in spot to make animated programmes based on Dahl’s performs. It has tapped Oscar-winning director Taika Waititi to make a new series based on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and is also developing an adaptation of the musical Matilda.

The enterprise is acquiring the Roald Dahl Tale Firm, which manages the legal rights to his figures across publishing, Tv, movie, theatre and items.

Ted Sarandos, co-main govt of Netflix, and Luke Kelly, the tale company’s boss and grandson of the author, reported: “As we convey these timeless tales to extra audiences in new formats, we’re committed to preserving their special spirit and their universal themes of shock and kindness, even though also sprinkling some fresh magic into the mix.”

The deal is unconventional move for Netflix as it usually only buys the legal rights for written content.
