Ford and Samsung consider Britain for electric battery gigafactories

Some of the world’s most significant carmakers and technological know-how companies are mulling ideas to make battery “gigafactories” in the United kingdom amid federal government overtures to the sector.

Six companies, which includes carmakers Ford and Nissan and South Korean electronics giants LG and Samsung, are in discussions with the Federal government over spots for battery factories in Britain, the Fiscal Moments reported.

Also between the fascinated companies are get started-ups BritishVolt, which publicly revealed its desire previous year, and Slovakia’s InoBat. 

Ford is at this time thinking of likely spots for a battery supplier for its Transit Custom made, an all-electric powered van that is thanks to go into manufacturing in Turkey in 2023. 

A Ford spokesman said: “As we have beforehand said, we will affirm the battery supplier for the Transit Custom made nearer to start.” InaBat, LG and Samsung did not answer to requests for comment. In May perhaps, it was reported Nissan could make a battery factory to guidance its Sunderland plant.

Britain so far has only a single corporation with ideas for a gigafactory in the United kingdom. BritishVolt, a £2.6bn get started-up launched in 2019, desires to build a producing web page around Blyth for its electric powered batteries.
